Though officially we are not past the possibility of freezing temperatures (that would be Memorial Day weekend), we decided to be bold and put in the annuals. For some reason, when the dogwood tree finally blooms, I begin to think about color and yearn for contained prettiness. So Mark took a vacation day and off we went to Lowes.
Usually I put verbena in the boxes, but this year I'm trying trailing petunias.
I used to plant individual flowers in the big barrels, but the last couple of years, I've gone for the prearranged multiple flower hanging baskets. It's ever so much easier to dump them in as one unit.
Every year we seem to add something new, and this year, we bought this shepard's hook thingy. Our front yard looks horrible, so this can only help.
I'm a little worried about that top plant (and no, I can't remember what it is)--it requires partial sun. There may not be enough for it. The begonia and fuchsia should be just fine, though.
It was so funny--it naturally started raining as soon as we got home. Mark was a trooper, carrying everything up the stairs and onto the deck. And then holding his massive umbrella over me while I planted.
I didn't think to take a picture of that...
....but I did sneak into his room and take one of him enjoying a well-deserved nap.
